Nature of work

Aquality controller of information systems examines the performance of information system in management scopes. He/she prepares the test case and evaluates information system quality in an organization.A quality controller of information systems usuallydoesthe following tasks:
  • Examining the documents of information system preparation project and checking the system compliance with quality standers. 
  • Preparing and documenting the test case of information system’s programs.
  • Installing the hardware and software and carrying out thepackage installationof operating system which is essential to test the system.
  • Preparing and applying the rules, procedures, and proofs of information system’s test.
  • Applying the tests of information and communication system besides analyzing and documenting the results.
  • Preparing the reports of technical usage and technical support for users.
  • Preparing the technical reports concerning the quality and efficiency of information system.
  • Keeping upwithcontrolling quality processes of modern information systems.

Environment of work

In public sector:
Aninformation systems controller usually examines the project documentsof an information system, checks the system compliance withquality standers, and checks the technical support to users and beneficiaries. He/she always supervises the function and operations of information systemespecially if this system was designed by a special group. He/she invites the developers of systems when he/she comes across any fault in the operations of system. An information systems controller mainly works in an office,but he/she rarely needs to work outside.
In private sector:
An information systems controller works as a consultant and supportiveconcerning preparing the system characteristicsin private and public sectors organizations. When the system’s building is finished, he/she examines compliance the system with the characteristics.He/she might be an arbitrator to settle the disagreements between the system developer and the organization. These processes take place in information system job sites;however, the controller often needs to work outside.

Professional life

An information systems controller uses the computer tools and deals with the analysts and designers of information system inside the organization. He/she begins his/her professional life by working within a group as an examiner to the hardware and to some information system procedures. Later on, he/she can take a role in preparing the technical reports about the quality and reliability of information system and about developing the new technics in the field of controlling. He/she might take a role in settling the disagreements.
An information systems controller should keep up to date with the latest developments in the field of technics that are used in computing and controlling the information systems. An information systems controller should work long hours which might extend to extra ones.

Getting the job

There is no specific legislation to practice this career in Syria. However, practicing it in private and public sectors depends on the bachelor degree and the practical efficiency acquired. An employee in public institutions and organizations should at least have a bachelor degree in the Systems of Managerial Information or in the field of economics or management besides the experience in the technics of information.He/she also can hold a bachelor degree in Informatics Engineering (Information Systems specialization) besides the experience in the fields of economics and management.
Syrian Universities grant a bachelor degree in Informatics Engineering (Information Systems specialization). The faculty of Economics at Aleppo University grants a degree in Economics (Statistics and managerial information systems specializations). Also, the faculty of Managerial Sciences at Edleb grants a degree in Managerial Sciences (managerial information systems specialization).

A quality controller of information systems should have the following skills:
  • He/she should keep up to date with the quick developments happened in the fields of controlling systems quality and information technics.
  • He/she shouldbe able to program and work on computers.
  • He/she should keep up to date with the technics in the field of computing technics.
  • He/she should be able to work according to a logical and methodological program.
  • He/she should be able to analyze, extrapolate, and deduce conclusions.
  • He/she should have the skills of administrative communication and be able to quickly understand the managerial developments.
  • He/she should be able to expect the needs of users and information system benefiters.
  • He/she should have managerial and scientific qualifications.
  • He/she should be able to work within a group.
  • He/she should have communication skills.
