Nature of work

The main duties of export sales manager are the following:
 
  •  Managing the sale of products or services to overseas customers.
  • Planning sales campaigns suitable for the country where to sell.
  •  Negotiating with customers (often in a foreign language) to try to make a sale.
  • He provides quotations and may be responsible for drawing up tender documents and agreeing the final contract.
  •  Processing orders and checks that the distribution is running smoothly and that everything is on schedule.
  • Producing marketing plans, budgets and sales reports for discussion by company management.
  • Organizing sales briefings, conferences, and visit international trade fairs.
  •  Serving as a linker between foreign buyers and domestic sellers.

Environment of work

  • Working as export sales manager requires significant travel and may require occasional overnight travel and weekend or evening work.
  • Export sales manager often performs regular visits to all sites, provide required training to all staff, forecast all sales volume for various projects, and maintain knowledge on all product range.
  •  He works outside the company and with different groups for services at multiple levels, which makes the work environment varied.
  • Export sales manager is a full-time salaried position. He works closely with the sales manager to develop, manage, direct and oversee selling activities and to develop and implement strategies and objectives to achieving the marketing goals.
  • The hours they work depend on their current market;some have flexible hours while others have nine to three, or overtime schedule.

Professional life

  • Various kinds of people are involved in the job including vendors, agents, shippers etc. and the export manager coordinates and communicates with them so that the work is done successfully.
  • Personnel management also needs to be handled by the manager at times when he needs to train staff subordinate to him.
  • The export manager also does total billing process; he prepares invoices, tracks various bills and shipments as well as makes the necessary reports.
  • It is also the duty of the export manager to check whether the shipments are done by following the necessary rules and regulation of international regulatory bodies and authorities.

Getting the job

Most employers prefer a college degree but a high school education is possible .The following are needed in this career:
