Nature of work

An information systems analyst usually describes and analyzes the problems that negatively affect the information system in one of the organizations. He/she also defines the functions of this system and its main components whether they are data or the applied procedures on this data. He/she defines needs of the users and beneficiaries from the system’s information.
An information systems analyst handles the following tasks:
  • Describing and analyzing the problems that negatively affect the system and visualizing the suitable solutions in addition to studying the feasibility of these solutions.
  • Defining the needs of an organization concerning the devices and programs.
  • Defining the main elements of the database in a system and defining the systems and standers of managing this database.
  • Preparing the system documentation.
  • Setting the plan of installing and preparing the database management systems and the tools of linking them with beneficiaries.
  • Putting the plan of backing upthesystem data.
  • Carrying out the technical and commercial studies to estimate the feasibility of improving the system and its performance.

Environment of work

In public sector:
Asystems analyst always works within a group andunder direct associationwith the highest management in the organization. He/she always communicates with the marketers of programs, computers, and webs. He/ she follows up the managerial instructions and the changes in the systems and executedlaws in the organization. He/she also suggests writing the programming procedures which follow the development of managerial business in the organization.
In private sector:
Asystems analyst works in an independent and private office within a group. He/she computes, designs, and, executes the information systems for private and public sectors usually according to contracts. Asystems analyst mainly works in an office, but he/she might occasionally travel if the activities of the organization which he/she analyzes its information system expands to more than one site. He/she also organizes meetings and meets the users and beneficiaries of the information system from inside and outside the organization.
 

Professional life

 Asystems analyst either always works in an organization and under a direct association with the highest management in this organization, or he/she works in an independent office within a group who analyzes, designs, and, executes the information systems for private and public organizations.
An information systems analyst can begin his professional life by joining a group and taking the role of collecting information about the mechanism of system’s working. Also, he/she can take the role of analyzing the needs of information system including equipment and programs. Then he/she can visualize the suitable programming solutions to the problems that negativelyaffect the information system. After that, he/she can manage the information system on the highest managerial level.
 Asystems analyst should keep up to date with the latest developments concerning thehardware and software of information systems and the technics used in building the computing information systems.
 Asystems analyst might travelabroad which makes him work overtime.

Getting the job

There is no specific legislation to practice this career in Syria. However, practicing it in private and public sectors depends on the bachelor degree and the practical efficiency acquired.An employee inthe public institutions and organizations should at least have a bachelor degree in the Systems of Managerial Information or in the field of economics or management besides the experience in the technics of information. He/she also can hold a bachelor degree in Informatics Engineering (Information Systems specialization) besides the experience in the fields of economics and management.
Syrian Universities granta bachelor degree in Informatics Engineering (Information Systems specialization). The faculty of Economics at Aleppo University grants a degree in Economics (Statistics and managerial information systems specializations). Also, the faculty of Managerial Sciences at Edleb grants a degree in Managerial Sciences (managerial information systems specialization).

The career of information analyzing revolves around defining the data of information system in an organization and the procedures of processing which are applied on this data according to the request of higher administration, the users, and the beneficiaries of this system. Also, this career includes describing the data, its flow, and the processes which are applied on them according to specific figures.
