Nature of work
Car Rental Agent Receives orders, generally in person, for repairs, rentals, and services. May describe available options, compute costs, and accept payment.The duties are:
Explain rental fees, policies and procedures.
Provide information about rental items, such as availability, operation or description.
Greet customers and discuss the type, quality and quantity of merchandise sought for rental.
Compute charges for merchandise or services and receive payments.
Answer telephones to provide information and receive orders.
Rent items, arrange for provision of services to customers and accept returns.
Recommend and provide advice on a wide variety of products and services.
Reserve items for requested times and keep records of items rented.
Keep records of transactions, and of the number of customers entering an establishment.
Prepare rental forms, obtaining customer signature and other information, such as required licenses.
Inspect and adjust rental items to meet needs of customer.
Prepare merchandise for display, or for purchase or rental.
Receive, examine, and tag articles to be altered, cleaned, stored, or repaired.
Advise customers on use and care of merchandise.

Buildings are generally well-lit to attract the attention of arriving passengers, and agents are required to maintain a calm and professional manner at all times, even when dealing with an angry customer. No formal education or degree is needed is become a car rental agent, although a high school diploma is required by most employers. Generally, car leasing agents have to be at least 18 years old. If you want to obtain a management position in a car rental company, an associate or bachelor's degree will make you a more competitive job candidate.Car rental employers typically provide training, and no other specialized training is generally needed. Some car rental employers prefer that job candidates have prior sales or retail experience.
