Nature of work

He/she works independently to study land nature and identify forests areas, prepare planting plans and take care of forests and woodlots, develop forest lands uses to achieve the target and increase the productivity, and select appropriate forests species. He/she Prepares seedlings and trees care tools bid stipulations, studies them financially, prepares the technical reports, manages his, works on developing their skills, develops procedures and provides requirements of occupational safety and health.
 The tasks are:
  • Identifying forests and woodlots areas
  • Preparing afforestation programs and preserving wild life
  • Preparing forests protection programs
  • Replanting natural forests to improve green areas
  • Preparing grazing programs and determining pastoral load and time
  • Preparing seeds gathering and planting programs
  • Identifying work materials, equipment schedule, and its qualification.
  • Preparing bid stipulations and studying them financially and technically.
  • Preparing technical reports.
  • Developing procedures and working methods using modern techniques
  • Evaluating performance to determine their need for training and train them to develop their skills
  • Providing and developing occupational safety and health requirements

Environment of work

  • Hours vary, but they usually have about forty hours work a week.
  • Work environment ranges between the office , field, field trips to forests and afforestation sites
  • He/she can work independently in case of consulting
  • Full-time work is required.
  • Men and women can work in this job.
  • This profession is constantly evolving and need to constant qualifications.

Professional life

  • It is important job for developing forests reservation. Providing afforestation engineer at the forests and afforestation sites is a governmental responsibility
  • He/she can gain practical and theoretical experience in afforestation through training courses, seminars, workshops and activities
  • He/she can work independently or as part of a team in private or public sector.
  •  Starting salary of work in the public sector will be at least 20000 Syrian pounds
  • He contributesinidentifying lands, living nature, weather, site geology and topography, soil, plants, and animals’ diversity.
  • He works on forestry lands and human resources development and coordinates between the concerned authorities to implement programs of economic with social and environmental development services in reforestation and forest areas.
  • The work can be done by men or women but the presence of men in the team is preferred cause of the need to be present in nature most of the working hours.
  • Most of the field work requires to wear appropriate fields
  • Afforestation engineer may travel abroad for gaining or providing experience in farm management
  • This job sometimes requires travelling abroad to train and gain experience from other countries' experiences.

  • For getting this  job, the person has to study in Agriculture Faculty, Department of Renewable Natural Resources and Ecology.
  • The students during that should get some related courses such as: Different  agricultural courses including forests trees, biodiversity, andwildlife, in addition to some practical agricultural courses such as forestry forests management and uses, rural development, and some supporting knowledge such as foreign languages, computer programming, engineering quality knowledge.
  • Preferably, Agriculture Faculty  graduated students pursue their graduated program studies in Renewable Natural Resources and Ecology Department to get their master's and Ph.D. degrees
