Nature of work

He/she works independently to study forests and woodlots, develop appropriate methods to increase green lands area according to the investment objectives, develop methods for forests management to achieve forest preservation and increase forest productivity according to nearby population requirements. He/sheprepares bid stipulations and studies them financially, prepares the technical reports, manages his, worksto develop their skills, develops procedures and provides requirements of occupational safety and health. The tasks are:
  • Managing, protecting forests and working for its sustainability.
  • Taking care of land a forestation.
  • Encouraging private investment in forestry sector.
  • Preventing forestry and natural resources encroachment.
  • Preparing appropriate programs to take the advantage of the forests without damaging.
  • Identifying work materials, equipment schedule, and its qualification.
  • Preparing bid stipulations and studying them financially and technically.
  • Preparing technical reports.
  • Developing procedures and working methods using modern techniques.
  • Evaluatingperformance to determine their need for training and train them to develop their skills.
  • Providing and developing occupational safety and health requirements.

Environment of work

  • Working hours vary, but usually they are about forty hours a week.
  • Work environment ranges between the field, field trips to forests and afforestation sites
  • He/she can work independently in case of consulting
  • Full-time work is required.
  • Forests investment and managing engineer should do the technical inspection and prepare a map for the site boundaries area. He/she determines the kind of forest productivity, its quality and quantity before granting forests investment license which is given depending on the technical inspection report in accordance to approved environmental standards.

  • This profession is constantly evolving and need to constant qualifications.
  •  This job requires sometimes travelling abroad to train and gain experience from other countries' experiences
  •   Bids process must be legal, timber and firewood prices interpolate after  announcing about forest production selling, trees cutting license will be granted after determining the investment forest area and paying the fees

  • He/she develops work plan and determines the team members and who will implement each mission.
  • He/she tracks forest status and applies appropriate propagation and care program.
  • He/she can gain practical and theoretical experience in forests investment and managementthrough training courses, seminars, workshops and activities.
  • He/she can work independently or as part of a team in private or public sector.
  •  Starting salary in the public sector will be at least 20000 Syrian pounds
  • He/she shouldcommit to the site, trees, plants and natural environmental preservation.
  • He/she works on the selection and application of investment methods that are compatible with the environmental conditions and appropriate to the nature of human community’sconcepts and traditions.
  • He/she works on human resources development and training them to activate community participation
  • He/she works on supporting the funding sources for the natural resources development
  • He/she communicates with local communities and focuses on activating the rural women role.
  • He/she supports the principle of protection and regulation of investment and resource conservation.

  • For getting this job, the person has to study in Agriculture Faculty, Department of Renewable Natural Resources and Ecology.
  • The students during that should get some related courses such as: Different Agricultural courses including forests trees, Biodiversity. Wildlife In addition to some practical agricultural, forestry, Forests management and uses, and rural development courses, and some supporting knowledge such as foreign languages, computer programming, engineering quality knowledge.
  • Preferably, Agriculture Faculty  graduated students pursue their graduated program studies in the Department of Renewable Natural Resources and Ecology to get their master's and Ph.D. degrees
