Nature of work
He/she works independently study seeds varieties, develops land preparation programs and improved seeds production, produces improved seeds that have high specification quality, follows up its implementation, develops the phenotypic traits that are affected by genes in agriculture field. He/she prepares bid stipulations, prepares technical reports, manages and develops their skills. Tasks are:
- Study seeds types and varieties and its characteristics, treatment methods and propagation.
- Prepare land for planting seeds.
- Follow up seeds propagation and growth
- Determine the time and methods for seeds collecting.
- Test the seeds according to the international and local standards.
- Determine the suitable seeds treatment for storage.
- Identify materials and equipment quantity tables, and the specifications.
- Prepare bid stipulations and study them financially and technically.
- Prepare technical reports and develop working methods by using modern techniques.
- Evaluate the performance to identify their training needs.
- Provide occupational safety and health requirements
Environment of work
- Work environment is diverse between field trips, factories and laboratories where they conduct researches, study and analysis the seeds growth period and development. As well as they work outdoors on farms to control the seeds growth and apply their studies on the realistic action, especially during growth season.
- Working independently is possible in case of experience consultation.
- Full time job is required
- This work is not easy, may be exposed to all kinds of weather, hot and cold, need to transfer plants during the winter to protect them and prevent the damage.
- This job can be carried out by men and women.
- Working hours vary, but it is about 40 hours a week usually.
- This job requires sometimes to travel abroad for training in order to gain other countries experiences
Professional life
- He/she should work on seeds quality development from various kind of plants and crops
- He/she is a technical specialist in the good understanding of the seeds biology.
- He/she can work in public or private sector in the labs and other facilities that are involved in development studies
- He/she can perform research and studies.
- He/she may complete some previous work related to the testing of many seeds under the growth conditions and control processes.
- He/she works independently or as a team member in private or public sectors. His/her monthly salary at the beginning of his/her work in public sector about 20000 Syrian Pounds
- He/she works on coordinating with quality station to do practical and academic researches that are related to agricultural production to understand and follow up the technologies to improve productivity and reduce costs while preserving the environment.
- Practical and academic modern theory experiences can be obtained by courses training, seminars, and various activities.
- He/she should work on developed methods by using modern techniques, and evaluate the performance by identifying their training needs to train them and develop their skills.

- Preferably, Agriculture Faculty graduated students pursue their graduated program studies in the Department of Horticulture, or Department of Natural Renewable Resources and Ecology, or Department of Farm Crops to get their master's and Ph.D. degrees.
