Nature of work
The career of Electrical Machine Technician is a profession in the engineering field. It presents the joint between the academic supervisor who supervises the engineering project and the technician or craftsman who executes the task. He / she is responsible for: calculating cables size, and switches and fuses values, the ability of assessing the quality of a motor, and finally understanding and analyze technical booklets and reports of makers for the purpose of operation, installation and maintenance, and drawing and reading the engineering plans.Electrical Machine Technician should be able to:
- prepare technical reports
- manage employees and improve their skills
- improve and insure the requirement of occupational safety tools
- Preparing tender books for purchasing and maintenance of systems in the electrical machines field, which must include technical and financial details.
- Prepare technical reports related to the task and develop work methods using advanced technology.
- Provide and use occupational safety tools and healthy working conditions.
Environment of work
- The electrical machine technician works for 8 hours daily except weekends and official holidays. He/she may have to work overtime even on holidays especially when there is installation or periodic or emergency maintenance works than requires long time.
- He/she may need special uniform or uniform accessories which are electrically isolated such as rubber gloves or shoes.
- He/she requires measures and electrical tools to perform the tasks.
- He/she should have a commitment to the international specification standards for electrical machines, installing the systems in the proper environment and works on assuring the performance quality.
- He/she may have to work sometimes in open places.
Professional life
The electrical machine technician can perform the work whether in the public or private sectors. The salary at the beginning when working for the public sector is about 20000 Syrian Pounds.- The professional course of the electrical machine technician develops by gaining administrative and practical experience through employment progression as workshop chief then to the larger departments in managing projects as an expert which includes planning tasks for the execution stages and defining the execution priorities.
- For the top ranking graduates of the technical institutes, they can proceed to the faculty of the same profession.
- They can travel to make some maintenance or to give a practical expertise for the installation of some systems.

The Electrical Machine Technician can perform tasks within the following professional sectors:- Private sector, i.e. his/her own workshop specialized in maintenance of domestic and industrial electrical machines or by joining tenders for turnkey works in the field of electrical machines.
- Public and private sectors in all industrial and service establishments that deals with electrical machines.
- The electrical machinesassistant engineer can continue higher education in electrical departments at public universities (available for 3% top ranking students).
- Also can continue higher education in electrical departments at private universities according to the criteria set by them.

The profession can be achieved through admission to the Technical Institute for mechanic and electricity department of electrical machines after finishing the senior high school scientific section with a suitable score The student at this department study the following knowledge fields: preparation field includes foreign language, computer science that helps in modern research and communication, other professional knowledge fields in electricity and electronics, professional computer programs related to electrical circuits and machines, and a supportive knowledge fields includes metrology, quality engineering, industrial and occupational safety.
