The profession of Computer Network Engineer is a profession in the engineering field who works alone within the authorities assigned to him/her. He/she who prepares the executive plans for computer networks

The tasks assigned to Computer Network Engineer can be classified into:​

Designing and studying networks:
  • Studying and specifying the need of computer networks.
  • Preparing the designed computer networks blueprints.
  • Preparing quantity schedules for computer networks and its specifications.
  • Preparing offers documents to buy and install computer networks.
  • Studying and assessing offers from import companies.
  • implementing networks:
  • Supervisingnetworks installation depending on the blueprints that have been designed.
  • Supervising options control for network devices and its experimental employment, and following up employment procedures.
  • Maintaining networks:
  • Preparing prophylactic maintenance programs for computer networks, following up its implementing procedures, diagnosing technical errors, and supervising its repair.
  • Following up quality standards development in the field of computer networks, preparing technical reports, and development of work methods.

Environment of work

  • The computer network engineer works for 8 hours daily except weekends and official holidays. He/she may have to work overtime even on holidays especially when there is supervising works on implementing or maintainingnetworkthat requires long time.
  • He/she works in factories and institutions to implement and maintain networks where he/she supervises technician and engineer assistants during network installation.
  • He/she supervises network performance through following up its work through control screens, and if there was an error he/she may checkup network devices using network special tools.
  • He / she carrying on documentation of network structure and simulation using specialized programs.
  • He/she can work in engineering office, or within a team in public or private sectors.
  • He/she can participate in some tenders in the field of computer networks.
  • He/she should have a commitment to the international specification standards for designing networks, and works on assuring performance quality.

Professional life

  • He/ she can perform his/her work individually or within a team whether in public or private sectors. The salary at the beginning when working for the public sector is about 20000 Syrian Pounds.
  • He/she can prepare technical qualifications papers, study and evaluate introduced offers, and prepare technical reports.
  • The professional course of the computer network engineer develops by gaining administrative and practical experiences through employment progression as workshop chief then to the larger circles and departments in managing institutions and companies.
  • Can travel to supervise executing and maintaining networks or to undergo training programs in the field of networks.
