Nature of work

The profession of Textile Technician is a profession in the technical field. It presents the joint between the academic supervisor who supervises the engineering project and the technician and craftsman who executes the task. This work includes: reading engineering plans and drawings for the purpose of analyzing, testing, maintenance, and calibration.
He/She should have knowledge in computer and IT, can express, read and write in foreign language. He/she should be able to prepare technical reports and manage employees and develop their skills. And providing and use of occupational safety tools.
 
  • Preparing tender books for purchasing and maintenance of systems in the Textile field, which must include technical and financial details.
  • Preparation of technical reports related to the task and developing work methods using advanced technology.
  • Ability to work within a team.
  • Providing and use of occupational safety tools
  • Providing the healthy working conditions.
  • Application of quality assurance and industrial safety procedures.

Educational tasks:
  • He/She can assist in educational process by working as laboratory technician or assisting the engineer in teaching subjects related to the profession.

Environment of work

  • The Textile Technician works for 8 hours daily throughout the week, except weekends and official holidays. He/She may have to work overtime even on holidays especially when there is installation or periodic or emergency maintenance works than requires long time.
  • Requires special uniform.
  • Require measures and electrical and mechanical tools to perform the tasks.
  • Can work individually by establishing own facility specialized in maintaining Textile machines or by joining some tenders to offer turnkey projects in the field of Textile.
  • He/She should have a commitment to the international specification standards for Textile systems, installing the systems in the proper environment and works on assuring the performance quality.
  • He/She should have integrity and honesty and should not submit to any emotional effects and should give his/her opinion and record the results of his/her work honestly and neutrally.

Professional life

  • The Textile Technician can perform the work whether in the public or private sectors. He/she is mostly the head of the execution team. The wage at the start when working for the public sector is about 20000 Syrian Pounds.
  • The professional course of the Textile Technician develops by gaining administrative and practical experiences through employment progression as workshop chief then to the larger circles and departments in managing projects as an expert which includes planning tasks for the execution stages and defining the execution priorities.
  • For the top ranking graduates of the technical institutes, they can proceed to the faculty of the same profession.
  • They can travel to make some maintenance or to give a practical expertise for the installation of some systems.

Sectors of careers

The Textile Technician can perform tasks within the following  professional sectors:
  • Private sector, i.e. his/her own workshop.
  • Public and private sectors in all industrial establishments that deals with Textile.

The Textile Technician can continue higher education in spinning and textile departments at public universities (available for 3% top ranking students).
The Textile Technician cannot continue higher education at private universities because there is no such profession at private universities yet.

Getting the job

The profession can be achieved through admission to the Technical Institute for Mechanic and Electricity department of Spinning and textile after finishing the senior high school scientific section with a score suiting the requirement defined by the ministry of higher education, or after finishing vocational senior high school Textile section also with a score suiting the requirement defined by the ministry of higher education.
The student at this department study the following knowledge fields: preparation field includes foreign language, computer science that helps in modern research and communication, other professional knowledge fields in electricity and mechanics, professional computer programs related to engineering drawing, and a supportive knowledge fields includes metrology, quality engineering, industrial and occupational safety.
