Nature of work
Industrial safety Engineer is responsible for inspecting work site to define risks and help workers and companies to reduce risks and ensure safety.Task of Industrial Safety engineer:
In the technical field:
- Maintenance and application of knowledge in industrial processes and systems.
- Makes propaganda for the advantages of safety systems to reduce the exposure of employees to chemical, biological and physical hazards.
- Inspection of facility, machines and safety tools, neutralize the possible risks and ensure the application of safety conditions.
- Investigate accidents and injuries to define reasons and make protective procedures.
- Study the plans and specification for machines building to ensure safety requirement.
- Interview employers and employees to collect information on work accidents and environment.
- Test the air, noise, temperature, and radiation level to ensure application of safety requirement.
- Train workers on safety rules and requirement.
- Keep up the good relations with organizations such as fire department, and rescue teams to facilitate response during emergency.
- Consult medical staff to assess risks and develop tools to manage health issues.
Environment of work
- Most engineers work at offices or laboratories and factories. Some may work at construction site or oil and gas fields to supervise safety procedures of solve problems on site. Some engineers may travel to distant factories or sites.
- The engineer works for 8 hours daily throughout the week, except weekends and official holidays.
- May have to work overtime even on holidays especially when there is workthat requires long time.
- The uniform has to be according to the instruction of occupational safety department (special suite, helmet, special shoes, goggles,….)
- Can work individually by establishing own industrial safety consulting office.
- The engineer should have integrity and honesty and should not submit to any emotional effects and should give his/her opinion and record the results of his/her work honestly and neutrally.
Professional life
- Industrial safety engineer can perform work individually or within a team in private or public sectors. The engineer is mostly the head of working team.
- The wage at the start when working for the public sector is about 20000 Syrian Pounds.
- The professional course of the industrial safetyengineer develops by gaining administrative and practical experiences through employment progression and promotion to the bigger circles and departments in project management, factories and manufacturing companies.

- Construction sites.
- Conventional and nuclear electrical power stations
Getting the job
The profession can be achieved through:- Earning a degree in mechanical engineering, department of industrial engineering. Should have knowledge in production and manufacturing, planning, environment, products design and marketing, and industrial safety.
