Nature of work

Although welding is a technical process, it is also a branch of engineering sciences that includes partially material science, design, inspection, mechanical engineering, robotics, etc.
WeldingEngineer deals with a wide range of welded products that includesbridges, buildings, pressure vessels, containers, heat exchangers, and boilers, chemical materials manufacturing tools, transportation, pipes, and machines.He/she has to train employees, ensure quality, and evaluate performance, sales and services. A welding engineer:
 
  • Develops techniques and procedures for welding to solve manufacturing issues using knowledge of production and materials properties.
  • Manages R&D for processes and tests and modifies present procedures accordingly.
  • Puts welding procedures to guide workers within the limits of international standards.
  • Coordinates the work of examiners to ensure workers commitment to the procedures and national specifications especially during weld test and welder test.
  • Prepares tender for all works related to metalworking and evaluates offers technically.
  • Evaluates employee’s performance and defines their needs for training and developing their skills.

Environment of work

  • The welding engineer works at office or workshops and factories. Office work may include project management, design of products and cost estimation.
  • The engineer works for 8 hours daily except weekends and official holidays.
  • He/she may have to work overtime even on holidays especially when there is work that requires long time.
  • The engineer may travel to meet other engineers and partners or customers and suppliershence communication skills are important.
  • The uniform has to be according to the instruction of occupational safety department (special suite, helmet, special shoes, goggles---- etc,)
  • He/she should have a commitment to the international specification standards in all works performed and ensure total quality management.

  • Welding work is a complicated task hence the engineer mostly works within a team to ensure best quality.
  • The welding engineer may be specialized in process automation, weld design, Welding project management, sales or technical support.
  • The salary when working for the public sector startsby 20000 Syrian Pounds.
  • The professional course of the weldingengineer develops by gaining administrative and practical experiences through employment progression and promotion to the bigger circles and departments in project management, factories and manufacturing companies.
