Nature of work
The profession of Textile engineer is a profession in the industrial field, works individually within the authority assigned to him/her. He/she undertakes studies, design and prepares plans for mechanical works at spinning and textile companies and prepares technical reports.The tasks can be classified into:
- Makes necessary calculations for selecting machines for textile section.
- Prepare program for assembly and installation of for different type of textile machines.
- Define the supplementary systems such as humidification and ventilation of the manufacturing hall.
- Prepare operation programs for machines according to the instructions of the manufacturer.
- Preparing tender books for purchasing and maintenance of systems in the textile field, which must include technical and financial details.
- Preparation of technical reports related to textile and developing work methods using advanced technology.
- Evaluation of employees performance and define their training necessities, train them and develop their skills.
- Providing and use of occupational safety tools, and healthy working conditions.
- Application of quality assurance and industrial safety procedures.
Environment of work
- The Textile Engineer works at textile and spinning companies for 8 hours daily throughout the week, except weekends and official holidays. He/She may have to work overtime even on holidays especially when there is installation or periodic or emergency maintenance works than requires long time.
- Requires special uniform.
- Works at private or public sectors.
- He/She should have a commitment to the international specification standards for textiles, and works on achieving them to assure quality.
- He/She should have integrity and honesty and should not submit to any emotional effects and should give his/her opinion and record the results of his/her work honestly and neutrally.
Professional life
- The Textile Engineer can perform the work whether in the public or private sectors. He/she is mostly the head of the execution team. The wage at the start when working for the public sector is about 20000 Syrian Pounds.
- The work of textile engineer is considered as creative work which has to be developed with the new technology and the needs of the society. The engineer should pay attention to the new development in the field via journals in addition to attending fairs related to the profession.
- The engineer works mainly within a team and is responsible for all problems occur related to profession.
- The professional course of the textile engineer develops by gaining administrative and practical experiences through employment progression as team member then to the larger circles and departments in managing projects as an expert which includes planning and management tasks.
- They can travel to make some maintenance or to give a practical expertise in the field of textile.

The Textile engineer can perform tasks within the following professional sectors:
- Textile and spinning companies at private sector.
- Textile and spinning companies at public sector.
The textile engineer can communicate or contribute with academic field mainly in the textile field and management of engineering projects.
Getting the job
The profession can be achieved through:- Earning a degree from the faculty of mechanical engineering department of spinning and textile and should have the knowledge in the following subjects: structure of woven textile, textile machines, measuring tools for textile, principles of textile weaving, air-conditioning of textile halls.
- Joining Engineering Order.
At the beginning the engineer can be appointed as chief of textile manufacturing hall. By the time and with gaining some experience the engineer can be promoted to be technical director and then a general director or manager of the factory.
