Nature of work

Renewable Energy Engineer searches the methods to develop acquisition of renewable energy from solar, wind, geothermal and tidal energies. The work concentrates on the estimation of available renewable energy and draws maps for the possible sites and search the ways of transferring the energy into different usable forms.
The tasks assigned to renewable energy engineer:
  • Forming database about whether conditions (temperature, humidity, wind speed, the magnitude of sun rays, …. etc.
  • Suggesting mathematical models that help in the estimation of values of renewable energies.
  • Offering analytical and numerical studies to help promoting the efficiency of the energy.
  • Studying the systems that depend on renewable energy and their continuous development.
  • Equip research laboratories to perform experimental research and compare the results with analytical and numerical studies. 
  • In the administration field:
  • Prepare technical reports related to renewable energy department and develop work methods using modern technology.
  • Evaluate employee’s performance and define their needs for training and development of their skills.
  • Ensure the availability of occupational health and safety tools.

Environment of work

  • Working hours at research centers starts from 36 hours a week. On site working hours may vary according to the need of the work. This is may be 24 hours.
  • The working environment vary from office work, research work at laboratory, work at renewable energy stations manufacturing sites, and stations building sites.
  • The work may be within big governmental projects or small private projects within consulting offices.
  • This work can be performed by male or female engineers.
  • This profession is fast developing and hence it is may be exhausting.The engineer may be requested to travel abroad to countries that have advanced technology to attend training courses.

  • In this profession, the chance for job promotion is excellent. This profession requires continuous study and training.
  • Many companies that manufacture renewable energy equipment are searching for new markets due to economic challenges. The engineers in these companies are interested in raising the efficiency of the systems or adding improvements to reduce losses.
  • Job promotion is related to the skills and improvement of the engineer in one hand and to the structure of the company on the other hand. This requires some skill in business management to run the capital, assets, human resources and information technology at the company.
  • The engineer may be promoted into a consultant after his experience is enough and after submitting studies that proves his skills.
  • The monthly salary of freshmen is about 25000 Syrian pounds.

The engineer has at the beginning to perform calculations related to the amount of renewable energy available at one site. Then has to perform analytical and numerical studies related to the systems that transfer these energies at proper place and time and develop these systems to raise their efficiency. Then the engineer can design systems that connect the areas of consumption with areas of storage. The engineer should always work on improving skills by continuous learning
